  Why does my Outlook ask me for my user name and password when I try to send / recieve email?
This is usually caused because your outlook settings are incorrect. Some Microsoft updates (and or some worms (virus)) may have changed your settings. To resolve your issue simply follow the instructions below.

Outlook Express or Outlook 2000 [ Outlook XP and 2003 - please scroll down ]
  1. Click on Tools
  2. Select Accounts
  3. Click on the email account that your having the issue with. Then Click on the Properties button to the right.



  4. At the top of the Properties Page select the Servers Tab
  5. Make sure that the Check box below OUTGOING MAIL SERVER is unchecked.



Outlook XP & 2003
  1. Click on Tools
  2. Click on Email Accounts
  3. Select the view or change existing email accounts



  4. Select the email profile in question and hit the "Change" button on the right



  5. Select the More settings button at the bottom of the screen


  6. Select "Outgoing Server" tab at the top and Uncheck "My Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
    (nothing on this screen should be checked)
